ASheville Wedding Photos: JuneBug Retro RV Resort

Another day in the life of an Asheville Wedding Photographer! Today I had the opportunity to capture moments for Erick and Erica [ I know, right?! ] at the beautiful JuneBug Retro Resort. This is by far one of the cooler venues in the Asheville area where not only can you have your wedding in a campy setting but all your guests can stay and play in retro campers that line the property! Instead of getting kicked out at 10pm [most traditional venues] at JuneBug you can have late nights by a campfire. Its outdoors, its unique… its perfect.

I leave my words till the end and let the photos speak to the day for themselves.. and for those that are still with me and like to read, I have this for you. Erick & Erica chose a unique space for their wedding in asheville that best served them and checked all the boxes. A sun-dappled ceremony spot nestled amongst the trees and along a creek. the kind of spot where the light wraps around you like a warm blanket.  just outside downtown — close enough to play.. and still far enough away that it felt campy.

I arrived early to scout angles and catch the light as it crept through the pine trees. Asheville’s got a soft dappled light that beams through the trees that just makes portraits sing. Erica’s dress had delicate lace sleeves and just enough vintage flair to feel timeless. Erick wore a slate-gray suit that complemented the mountain backdrop perfectly. This was a quick one, 4 hours for those keeping track and asking me how much wedding photography coverage is enough?? Truly, it’s whatever is good for you! these two were pretty much ready when I arrived and just had me in an hour or two pre ceremony to capture the first look and candids and then after ceremony to get family photos and candids at cocktail hour before dinner. By 7pm I was out the door, on the road and catching a plane to detroit for a completely different style wedding at the Crofoot Ballroom.

I should mention, my first time at the venue and We did a short first look up at the tree house! which was extremely impressive. I mean, I buildt treehouses as a kid… but this was next level. Huge deck with massive cables and supports, pretty sure they can even do small ceremonies up there! The view was incredible, perfect spot for a first look. TBH First-looks always get me — the flood of emotion when two people finally get to see each other, the anticipation, the release. It makes for incredible photos. I give couples the space, observing from a far, landing whatever they allow me to see. It’s vulnerable and beautiful. First looks [for anyone on the fence about them] allow for Authentic portraits of a moment shared privately. It doesnt get more beautiful in the moment than this. For portraits, I leaned into shallow depth of field to isolate them from the background and let their connection be the focal point. Asheville’s textured backdrops — mossy stones, vintage touches amongst trees + mountains — give so much character to images without stealing the spotlight. We squeezed in a few playful shots! Those candid bursts of joy are what end up getting framed.
